PIR insulation boards achieve their excellent thermal properties partly thanks to their gas-tight facing, which is why it is important to avoid damaging it during installation.

Leaks or improperly sealed joints can reduce the thermal performance of the insulation system. Damage to the facing may contribute to a gradual change in the insulating gas composition within the PIR structure, which can affect the board’s thermal conductivity over time. Depending on the product and conditions, λ values may increase from approximately 0.022 W/(m·K) towards 0.025–0.027 W/(m·K).

For this reason, it is important to carefully seal the joints between PIR insulation boards, helping maintain the continuity and airtightness of the insulation layer while limiting the penetration of air and moisture.
