Details
Z-sections are steel profiles with a cross-section resembling the letter Z. Two flanges are separated by a vertical web.
The profiles differ in their overall depth and flange widths. The flange arrangement can allow sections to overlap where the design requires it. Profiles are formed from steel strip on automated production lines. Thickness varies from 1 mm to several millimetres, with different steel grades available. Material selection should take account of the environment’s corrosivity and the required corrosion protection.
When selecting the material, consider:
– the steel designation and applicable material standard,
– tensile strength Rm, expressed in MPa,
– yield strength Re, expressed in MPa,
– the protective zinc coating where specified,
– the corrosion protection required for the intended exposure.
Holes can be provided in Z-sections to attach them to the main structure or connect lengths during installation. Applications include supports for roofing and wall cladding.
Cold-formed Z, C and Σ sections are produced from cold-rolled steel.

First-grade Z-sections can be ordered to the required dimensions, with an approximate lead time of two weeks. Prices are quoted for each order.
