Styrodur is commonly used as a name for XPS insulation. XPS has smaller, more closely packed cells than conventional EPS, giving it a dense foam structure. The extrusion process gives XPS different technical properties from expanded polystyrene bead insulation. The correct material name is extruded polystyrene, although it is sometimes described informally as hard polystyrene insulation.
